How a session goes
Blast Buddies is a multiplayer shooter. Poki lists two modes: free-for-all, where everyone plays for themselves, and team deathmatch, where two sides fight it out. You can play solo or with friends. Before each match you choose a primary weapon, a pistol and an ability, so the first minute is spent building the kit you want.
In a match you move with WASD or the arrow keys, jump with Space and slide with C. The mouse aims and shoots, R reloads, and keys 1 and 2 switch weapons. The ability sits on Shift or 3. Holding Tab shows the leaderboard, and Esc pauses. The scenery is destructible, so cover that protects you now may not be there in ten seconds.
Beyond the matches, the game lets you create and share custom maps, and it has leaderboards and unlockable skins. The art is cartoon style, but the game is still about shooting other players, which matters if the player is young.
A match is built on the choice you made beforehand. Because you pick a primary weapon, a pistol and an ability each time, you can change your approach from round to round: a close-range kit one match, a careful one the next. The ability key (Shift or 3) is easy to forget in the first minutes, so it helps to decide when you will use it before you spawn.
Poki also lists leaderboards and unlockable skins, so there is a reason to keep playing beyond a single match. If you prefer to play with people you know, the game supports friends, and custom maps give a group something to argue over. How the matchmaking works in detail is not described on Poki, so we do not describe it either.

Tips for the first runs
- Learn the slide early. It is the one move on the list that a casual keyboard shooter player is least likely to use by habit.
- Choose the weapon, the pistol and the ability as a set. Pick an ability that covers what your main weapon does badly.
- Reload when no one is in sight rather than in the middle of a fight.
- Because scenery can be destroyed, do not rely on one wall for cover; keep moving between spots.
- Start in free-for-all if you are new; there is no team depending on you while you learn the maps.
Made for these players
Players who want a quick, cartoon-style multiplayer shooter in the browser, and groups of friends who want to share a match. Not aimed at young children. Parents should look at the game before handing it to a younger child, since the cartoon look does not change what the game is about.
Honest downsides
- It is a multiplayer game, so your matches depend on who else is online and what they play like.
- A full control scheme with many keys is a lot to learn, and it is clearly built for a keyboard and mouse.
- Poki shows ads around its games, and the game opens on Poki's page.
- It involves shooting other players, even in a cartoon style.

Is it multiplayer?
Yes. Poki lists free-for-all and team deathmatch, solo or with friends.
Can I make my own maps?
Poki says you can create and share custom maps.
Is it suitable for children?
It is a cartoon shooter with weapons, so we would not call it a game for young children. Check Poki's page and decide for your own household.
Do I need a mouse?
The controls list mouse aiming and shooting, so a mouse is the intended setup on desktop. Poki also lists phones and tablets, where the on-screen controls take over.
